(For the complete version go to this Queensland Government website listed below). This information has been edited from the Blue cards for churches, clubs and associations | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government website:
Blue cards for Associations:
You will need a blue card for work at an association or similar entity that includes providing services to children and conducting activities with children. A blue card is required for people volunteering:
- with a children’s sports team
- as an executive officer or board/committee member—such as a president, treasurer or secretary member—of a community sporting or recreational club that provides regulated services for children.
Under this category, you may not need a blue card if you are a parent who volunteers at an organisation your child attends and you provide the same or similar services to those your child is receiving at the association.
For example, if a parent volunteers at their child’s sporting club as a team manager/coach for their child’s team, and does not perform another role within the club—such as a timekeeper for another junior team—a blue card is not required. This is because the services the parent provides are the same or similar to those their own child receives at the club and they are captured by the volunteer parent exemption (unless you are a restricted person who cannot rely on the volunteer parent exemption).
However, if the same parent proposes to volunteer at their child’s sporting club as a Secretary of the Committee—or officiates other junior teams—they are not providing the same or similar services that their child is receiving at the club and a blue card is required.
TO APPLY FOR A BLUE CARD: You will need a Customer Reference Number (CRN) from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) before you apply for your blue or exemption card to prove your identity. You can find your CRN on any TMR product. If you are not sure if you have ever had a CRN, you can contact TMR. We use the photo from your TMR product for your blue card. If your photo with TMR was taken more than 6 years and 11 months ago, you will need to have a new photo taken at a TMR customer service centre.
If you don’t have a CRN, or your photo has expired, you will need to visit a TMR customer service centre to get one. If you are unable to visit TMR or live interstate you can still apply for a CRN from them. There is no fee to get a CRN or have your photo updated.
Receiving your card:
If your application is approved, they will notify you via email or post. They will send your physical card to your postal address. Delivery times to receive your blue or exemption card may be up to 21 days.
How to renew your blue or exemption card
To renew your blue or exemption card, you need to follow 3 steps:
1. Go to: Blue Card Services | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au)
2. Have a CRN from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
3. Register for an online account - this will verify your identity and get the photo for your card.
4. Renew your blue or exemption card using the applicant portal or download the paper form.
It may seem like a long process but it's for the well-being of all Children. Remember, you are not permitted to have contact with children at the Park until you have the Blue Card in your possession.
